I think the BDS was from an art contest, so it's possible that the artist drew inspiration.

handle looks about the same.. think anything with dragon bones has always been considered magical.. I wouldn't mind if they had bone dragon armor for mage in gw2.. sure beats tatoos

Dragons and Bones are pretty popular concepts in this particular genre of video games =P.
GW's BDS is pretty standalone... Bone Dragons are in the game and they're just named that because they're... bony dragons. The staff looks like it... voila! |

It's a fairly basic name
 Bone Dragon as based off one of the bone dragon's from proph probably? and then staff because its a staff
